Was any consideration given to wave chambers on the front face of the caissons to reduce wave energy?
This was a preliminary study to investigate the configuration and benefits of crest elements. Front face chambers were not considered.
Do you have a calculation/estimation of the normalised local cost of energy (LCoE) of the device?
As the monitoring has just begun, no definitive power matrix is available. Moreover, a distinguishing feature of WECs embedded in coastal defences is their low marginal costs compared to the traditional structures. Hence, the calculation of LCOE should be made just considering the extra costs (or cost saving) related to Maritime Works and electro-mechanical equipment necessary to build the OBREC breakwater instead of a traditional breakwater with the same overall safety performance.
