The Cromer Coastal Protection Scheme is one of the most challenging projects being undertaken on the North Norfolk coast. The works are designed to protect the town by improving the condition of its ageing seawall whilst preserving its heritage characteristics and protecting the economy of the area. The paper describes the elements of the refurbishment works – which include steel piles, reinforced concrete apron and encasement. Discussion of these elements will focus on the challenges that were encountered during the design and construction processes.
