The Pedra de Ferro Offshore Port in the State of Bahia, Brazil, is a major private mineral export terminal that is to be constructed to facilitate the export of up to 40 million tonnes per year of iron ore from a new mine 500km inland. The Port and the mine are being developed by Bahia Mineração.
Due to the lack of suitable natural harbours, the port is to be located on a straight length of open coastline approximately 10km north of the City of Ilhéus on the Atlantic coast of Bahia. The port will provide a single berth for dry bulk carriers up to 220,000 DWT, and has a design life of 30 years.
