It is good news that Fife SMP and SEPA’s flood warning system has been produced. A question; will the Fife SMP be fed into the planning documents such as the emerging local development plan ie. Fife Plan and SESPlan with its next revision?
Reply by M Scott
Yes, the SMP is available to planners and is to be used to inform development decisions, alongside other sources of information like the SEPA flood maps. The council, as Coast Protection Authority, offers guidance to colleagues in the planning team and provides advice to developers using the SMP and will ensure that consent is obtained from statutory consultees to any works as part of the approvals process. We are keen to ensure that the work done to prepare the SMP2 is available to planners and promote its use through partnership working, for instance in Local Biodiversity Plans and Green Networks.
