Whilst the scheme was not a traditional realignment scheme, what has been the general public response? Did you experience any difficulties in the design and construction of a curved stepped revetment structure? Was the curved construction difficult?

The public response to the scheme has generally been very positive. This is largely due to recognition of the significant improvements that are being made to the amenity function and aesthetic value of the area. South Tyneside Council has been pro-active and very positive in its public relations campaign and this has been beneficial in gaining the public support. For example, a series of posters have been produced using a vibrant colouring palate which show visualisations of the scheme with a strapline “Hello Tomorrow – Change is Happening”.
