This chapter argues that teacher education in Mexico is now organized with a technicist perspective that is focused on the learning of teaching skills and classroom management abilities. However, the official Government’s discourse indicates that teachers are considered social agents that will bring upon social change for the Mexican society. This apparent contradiction is presented through the analysis of the complex political, economic, and social relationships that permeate the history of teachers education in Mexico and the examination of the current Normal School curriculum. From this analysis, it is stated that Mexican teachers are not being prepared for lighting against injustice and working for social change in the communities where they teach.
