CHAPTER 17: Whiteness, Nationalism, and Neoliberalism: What Pat Buchanan and the Right Can Teach Us About Resisting Neoliberalism in Schools¹

This chapter focuses first on the history and present realities of nationalism and White supremacy as they intersect in educational spaces. Next, focusing on Pat Buchanan’s (2011) writings on “The End of White America” and “The White Party” as he elaborated in his Suicide of a Superpower, I show how neoliberal ideologies are embedded in nationalist “commonsense” and finally how educators can better recognize this entanglement of nationalism, racism, and neoliberalism both globally and locally.
