In his chapter Hartlep argues that neoliberalism means (a) paying for services and furthering segregation, (b) impacting the environment, and (c) altering the way society functions. Commenting from his perspective as a former elementary school teacher, and now Social Foundations of Education professor and PK–12 teacher educator, Hartlep describes the nefarious ways that the neoliberal project is expanding and overtaking parts of society that appeared at one point of time to be protected from being privatized.
