The chapter examines the interdisciplinary project, Taking Refuge, which aimed to humanize the situation of Syrian refugees, by giving voice to the crisis through works of classical and contemporary theatre, film, journalism, and academic research. The first part of this chapter explores the need for interdisciplinary dialogues regarding Syrian refugees with special attention to the refugee experience in Pittsburgh. The second part of the chapter describes the innovative programming of Taking Refuge at the University of Pittsburgh and at other college campuses emphasizing the power of collaboration and interdisciplinary partnerships to educate students about the Syrian refugee experience.
