First page of Resilience Cultivation for Children of Displaced Background
Efforts on Resilience for Migrant Children and Youths in Chinese Urban Areas

Resilience, a crucial component of spirituality, refers to the process for or outcome of positive development in the face of adversity. Resilience is appreciated because of its unique healing role in guiding people to resolve difficulties and hardships effectively and appropriately. Chinese migrant youth, who travel with their peasant-turned-worker parent(s) from the rural areas to the urban areas for a better life, are marginalized and have difficulty in integrating into the host culture. Against the background, the chapter presents a profile of resilience conditions of Chinese migrant juniors and a review of related literature concerning efforts to cultivate resilience among the disadvantaged junior group. The contents, guiding principles, and efforts that reflect certain quintessence of the Chinese culture and characteristics of the unique Chinese social context respectively are expected to enrich research on junior’s resilience, especially the resilience education/intervention on juniors of [im]migrant background, thus contributing to a more united community through giving due attention to and concrete help for marginalized groups.
