Many years ago, Dr. Shirley Schwartz envisioned the powerful influence that collaboration between urban districts and their local higher education counterparts could have on improving schools and educator preparation. As a result, Dr. Schwartz created a space at the Fall Council of the Great City Schools Meeting for representatives from schools of education to dialogue with their neighboring districts as well as with other urban higher education institutions committed to collaborative educator preparation. This book, a result of ongoing, important, and energizing conversations between college of education teacher education administrators during the annual fall conference, is offered in memory of Dr. Schwartz’ vision. The chapters you just read comprise a collection of narratives that make visible the complex daily work of school-university collaboration within urban contexts.
