First page of National Policies and Practices on ICT in Education: Lithuania

The concept of Lithuanian education is based on the principles of civic and modern society, democracy, and national independence (Ministry of Education and Science, 1998). The principles and trends of the current educational reform were launched at the end of 1992. The reform seeks to modify the main elements of the educational system: aims and structure of education, content of curricula, instructional process and learning methods, educational system administration and decision-making, and pre-service and in-service teacher training. Some of these initiatives have already been implemented; others are still underway. The legal regulation of Lithuanian education is essentially based on the Law of Education, which is approved by Parliament and has been operating since 1991.
