O’Neil and Chuang (2005) in their chapter in What Works in Distance Learning: Guidelines (O’Neil, 2005) presented self-regulation strategies that could aid a learner in a distance learning setting to maximize his or her learning experience. The self-regulation strategies instantiated from a trainee perspective here include goal specificity, setting process and outcome goals, self-evaluation, self-monitoring, self-questioning, and effort allocation. These strategies are shown with explanations in detail. The strategies are general strategies rather than task specific. However, the task of learning about brakes is used in some lessons as a specific example. The strategies are written from the learner’s perspective.
