“TMo be a good writer, you should be writing every day.” My heart sank at my professor’s words. I certainly didn’t write every day. “You should write about what you know.” Again, I thought I just might be dead in the water, as I was a 40-year-old woman, back in school to be a teacher. I could write about raising four children but was sure that wasn’t going to help me teach writing. “Your students should see you writing.” This just wasn’t a promising start. My BS in Biology was rusty and out-of-date. I only wrote occasional letters, emails and papers for college. I didn’t see how my background would be useful in helping me teach writing to elementary school students. As a person who demands a lot from herself, I was worried.
