This chapter examines trends in home schooling in North Carolina and Ohio. Both states are home to a growing home schooling movement, despite the presence of alternative school choice options including charter schools and private schools. In North Carolina, homeschool enrollment has for the first time eclipsed enrollment in charter schools and private and parochial schools. We examine the growth of the homeschool movement in these states, explore the reasons behind this growth, and forecast trends in home schooling in the next decade. The politics and policies pertaining to the home schooling movement in these states will be examined as well.
