First page of Mathematics At Teachers’ College—Much Done And More To Do
A Survey of the One Year Training Program

Since September, 1959, all students attending the Saskatchewan Teachers College in Saskatoon have been required to take a class in arithmetic consisting of 40 forty-five minute periods per year. Though this is little more than the equivalent of a half-class at the University of Saskatchewan, it represents a considerable increase over the amount of time devoted to arithmetic prior to 1959. During the 1963-64 school year, fifty students will be able to take an elective in this subject. The elective will require an additional 25 periods of 45 minutes each, and will be aimed at acquainting these students more intimately with the modern approach to arithmetic as introduced into some elementary schools of this province.
