First page of Introduction: The Nineties

Those of you keeping track might remember that I was born in the seventies, grew up playing video games in eighties and, as a result, my brain was turned to mush. Despite my condition, I was able, during the nineties, to graduate from high school (in 1995) and from university with a major in mathematics (in 1999)— must have been the Tetris. Counter to my Generation X tendencies, however, I am not going to continue to talk about myself (anymore). You might also remember that when I (there I go again—that’s so Gen X of me) was introducing the ten articles chosen to represent the eighties—as part of our continuing celebration of 50 years of the Saskatchewan Mathematics Teachers’ Society (SMTS)—I “revisited” the 1980s and shared some of the events and moments that, for various reasons, stood out. In a similar vein, to “set the stage” for the ten articles chosen to represent the nineties, let us, first, revisit some major moments in: world and Canadian history, popular culture and mathematics.
