Ancillary Material: The Canadian Association For The Teaching Of Mathematics

On November 6^th & 7^th, representatives from across Canada met in Toronto to continue a discussion that began one year earlier regarding the formation of a national organization for mathematics teachers. The goal is for this organization to be ‘launched’ at The Canadian Math Forum in Toronto in May, 2005. It will be a bilingual organization aimed at supporting teachers of mathematics across Canada. The name for the organization will be The Canadian Association for the Teaching of Mathematics (CATM).

The founding meeting of this idea and possible organization began with Stewart Craven (Ontario Association of Mathematics Education) and Florence Glanfield (University of Saskatchewan). This last meeting included representation from British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland. In addition to Florence representing Saskatchewan, we also had in attendance Liliane Gauthier (Sask Learning) and Karen Campbell (SMTS).
