First page of Competencies For Blended Teaching

How one teaches competently and effectively in a blended setting is a topic undergoing continual development; an instructor who teaches in a blended setting is expected to continually learn, train, and adapt. Improving pedagogical practices and instructional strategies while effectively integrating offline and online instruction can be challenging for blended instructors. Thus, an instructor who aims to be effective in a blended setting must invest time to be technologically conversant and capable, coupled with the skills to provide a balanced blend to the overall course structure. Competent instructors in blended settings need to possess a variety of critical KSAs. On the IBSTPI Instructor Competencies questionnaire, there were 43 performance statements that were either adapted or written specifically for blended instruction. The blended instructors were asked to rate the competencies on a five-point Likert scale: not critical = 1, slightly critical = 2, moderately critical = 3, critical = 4, highly critical = 5.
