First page of Competencies For Online Teaching

In many instructional settings across the globe, the use of instructional technologies and the availability of online learning opportunities are expanding. Competencies to teach online are different from competencies required to teach face-to-face, as the strategies and technologies used in online instruction are different from teaching in person. An instructor who aims to be effective in an online setting must be technologically and pedagogically competent. Hence, competencies for online instructional delivery and research validating these competencies are needed. There were 44 competencies that were either adapted or written specifically for online delivery focusing on the synchronous and asynchronous modalities. The online instructors were asked to rate the competencies on a five-point Likert scale: not critical = 1, slightly critical = 2, moderately critical = 3, critical = 4, highly critical = 5.
