How does a researcher prepare for and administer an online survey project in such a way as to ensure not only a reasonable rate of response from a particular population or sample, but also high-quality data as well? This chapter offers several practical, easy-to-implement suggestions for achieving these important goals. It is intended for a wide range of survey practitioners at different skill levels. Examples include higher education professionals who need to collect data to better understand a program or service, such as those working in institutional research and admissions offices; graduate students collecting data for a research project or thesis; and anyone else who might be tasked with survey work, such as a researcher on the diversity and equity team who is asked to survey undergraduates about the campus social climate.
