In order for professionals to aid in the reduction of recidivism, it is vital to explore the ability of clients to meet basic needs through legal means. Although there are many re-entry programs to reduce recidivism rates of individuals exiting the legal system, aftercare and follow-through can be limited by State and county funds. It can be deduced that when a person is unable to meet his or her basic needs, that the rate of re-offending and re-entering the cycle of legal trouble is increased. Regardless of population, professionals will eventually meet a client that has been within the legal system. It is evident that there is a growing need to properly assess, and refer clients to resources that can improve their chances of employment.
