First page of What Might Schools of the Future be Like?

Some days I wish I could come back in a half century and see what is going on in the world. On other days, I am glad I won’t be able to do that. But some of those reading these words will perhaps be around, so here is some sage advice.

There are as many possible futures as we can imagine. We make the future as we go—out of all those possibilities in struggle with each other. I happen to be one of those who has had a chance over and over to bring to life my “dream” schools—although always compromised happily by the people I worked with—kids, parents, and teachers as well as by the realities of the present, including our internalized expectations, dreams, and fears, not to mention our sometimes false memories of what “used to be.”
