On January 26, 2017, President Donald Trump announced a new immigration policy that would effectively close the nation’s borders indefinitely to international refugees, as well as temporarily blocking immigration from seven predominantly Muslim nations (Shear & Cooper, 2017). This announcement caused immediate chaos in U.S. airports and border crossings, as travelers were detained, sent back to their countries of origin, or left in a state of uncertainty (Erdbrink, 2017). Ultimately, the executive order was suspended by a federal judge (Landler, 2017), prompting the Trump administration to hastily release a revised version of the same order, which was subsequently suspended by other federal judges (Jarrett, 2017; Thrush, 2017).
