Research in Middle Level Education Online

Research in Middle Level Education Online (RMLE Online) is an international, peer-reviewed research journal published by the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE, formerly National Middle School Association [NMSA]). Now in its 38th volume, RMLE Online has been an enduring source of professional knowledge in the field of middle level education. NMSA first published a research annual in 1980 and then began publishing Research in Middle Level Education (RMLE) as a semi-annual journal in 1991 (Hough, 2005). The journal became RMLE Quarterly in 1994 and, by the mid-1990s, it was considered “a major refereed journal” (Totten, Sills-Briegel, Barta, Digby, & Nielsen, 1996, p. 371). In 2000, NMSA moved the journal to an online format and changed the name to RMLE Online.
