First page of Scholar-Practitioners
Comparing and Contrasting the Role of Scholarship in the Careers of Administrators and Faculty

Those who are identified as scholar-practitioners in student affairs administration are relatively rare, or at least that was my experience over the four decades that I was an administrator and faculty member in higher education, from 1970 to 2010. Dr. Terrell's record as a sitting vice president for student affairs for 20 years, president of a national professional organization, and also a recipient of the NASPA Contribution to Literature or Research Award places him in a very select group of educators. I am not sure that one could identify even a dozen people who have made such comprehensive contributions to higher education as he has during my career—if not perhaps ever.
