One of the more cherished tunes in the African American gospel diaspora is titled “If I Can Help Somebody.” The signature hook recapitulates the memorable lyrics:
Dr. Melvin Cleveland Terrell—confidant, friend, mentor, and strong tower—has cultivated a life that has been emblematic of the words in the song. At the very core of Melvin's being is the heart and soul of a man who has not only dedicated his life to visionary leadership, but also to the uplift of young aspiring administrators and scholars who have sought his wise counsel on their professional journeys. Such is illuminated through two major sections of this chapter: (a) a cogitation; and (2) an epilogue by Melvin C. Terrell himself.
