Teacher education at St. Bonaventure University is recognized by the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education for its innovative, clinically based programs, including the use of the professional development school model. This chapter provides a thick description of the middle grades portion of the undergraduate and graduate programs. For fifth and sixth grades, our chapter explains the undergraduate program, while for seventh and eighth grades the graduate program is described. The chapter deals specifically with the following elements of the program: history, partnerships, clinical faculty, challenges, and achievements, sustaining the model, and advice and encouragement.
