First page of Mentor me This! Technology Mentoring in a Secondary School

In the fall of 1999, graduate students in the Iowa State University (ISU) mentoring class, as described in Chapter 1, were allowed to choose either an ISU professor or a K-12 staff member as a mentee. Because I worked in a public school at the time, the choice of one of my secondary school colleagues was a perfect option for me. This chapter begins with a narrative of my experience as a mentor along with a segment in the words of my men-tee, Mary. The second section of the chapter is a description of the mentoring project that we began with a small group of mentors and mentees the following semester. A brief overview of staff development needs and technology competencies of teachers introduces this section, as an integral part of the staff development proposal.
