Chapter 11: Postmodernism And Cyberculture

Baudrillard (1983) argued that there is no longer a polarity between “the one and the other.” We are indeed living in an age in which diverse and pervasive use of new technologies are challenging our conceptions of separateness and community. Postmodern philosophies contribute to a deeper understanding of cybercultures through their use of various deconstructive strategies, their troubling of the self-conscious “I,” and through nomadic inquiries that nurture ever-changing structures of multiplicity and interconnectedness. This chapter both explores and suggests possible folds and intersections between poststructural philosophies and digital learning practices and in so doing, proposes that these new technologies help to create all kinds of new learning possibilities beyond the existing nexus that exists between the educational institution and the enquiring mind.
