Arthur J. Reynolds, Ph.D., is a professor of social work, educational psychology and human development at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He directs the Chicago Longitudinal Study, which since 1985 has been tracing the impact of the Chicago Child-Parent Center Program and other government-funded early childhood educational programs in 25 Chicago public schools. He and his team have tracked the experiences of more than 1,500 children from preschool to early adulthood. Reynolds’ research focuses on children’s social adjustment and academic success, with special emphasis on how environmental conditions affect development. His many published findings include Success in Early Intervention: The Chicago Child-Parent Centers (2000). Most recently, he coedited Early Childhood Programs for a New Century, the 2003 book examines preschool education and care, early school-age programs and practices, and national investment.
