First page of Sociological Resources For The Social Studies
A Blast From the Past

It was fall of 1969 and I was observing a sociology class at Gaithersburg High School in Maryland. The teacher was testing a unit (episode) prepared by Sociological Resources for the Social Studies (SRSS), a curriculum project of the American Sociological Association with funding from the National Science Foundation. The teacher, considered to be a master teacher in her district, did not introduce me, at my request, so that I could see what happened when an SRSS episode was taught in a real classroom. I sat in the back of the classroom out of the way. The students showed no particular attention to my presence.
