Today
The Tyler Rationale Reconsidered

When I was invited to speak on this subject at this conference, I assumed that the topic referred to the syllabus I prepared more that 25 years ago for a course I offered at the University of Chicago, and that I was being asked how such a syllabus would differ under the circumstances of today. Most of what I have to say is based on this assumption. [Note: The author’s reference here to the “syllabus” and subsequently in this chapter to the “book” refer to his publication: Tyler, R. W. (1949). Basic principals of curriculum and instruction. Chicago: University of Chicago Press.]
