The Challenge Program is a specialized outpatient day program for individuals with brain injuries, and is part of The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research Memorial Hermann’s rehabilitation continuum. The program is run from a hospital setting, with the benefits of connecting to leading research and resources in the field of Acquired and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), while simultaneously focusing on client rehabilitation or therapy for community re-entry. A key feature of the program is its comprehensive approach in helping clients achieve their rehabilitation goals. This includes encouraging the client to connect with a community in the program as a facet of the therapy as well as going beyond the traditional medical rehabilitation model by working with the client, their families and their community environments in order to meet mutually developed goals. The program has been structured and created for the purpose of successful community reintegration for clients with brain injury and will be explored as a case study.
