The intention of this book was to establish the change imperatives that the China banking system had as a consequence, primarily of WTO membership. The book has so far explored the change imperatives, and identified some of the issues and banking weaknesses that needed to be responded to. The creation of a general model of pathology has really been a potentially instructive aside. In this chapter, then, interest lies in reflecting on how the industry has moved in response to full membership of the WTO. In this chapter we reflect again on the rise of the four commercial banks in China and how the big commercial banks have actually responded to the change.
