Abstract
New business intelligence/business analytics (BI/BA) majors and minors at the undergraduate and MBA levels and new master’s programs are appearing in business schools. Most of these programs include a data mining course. The emphases of these courses and programs vary greatly. A major source of this variation is due to institution’s definition of business intelligence (BI) and business analytics (BA). Initially in this chapter, we develop an integrated framework for business intelligence and business analytics. Based on our framework and recent survey and interviews of BI/BA programs, we identify what we believe are the critical fundamental components that should exist for successful BI/BA programs and in particular in a data mining course offered in a business school.
