In this chapter we discuss a method through which it becomes possible to identify elements of practice that constitute the learning environments of school mathematics. Through this process it becomes possible to identify those elements of practice that may contribute to the success (or not) of students, particularly those from backgrounds which are traditionally marginalised through school practices.
