The journey toward innovation begins with the seeds of discontent, with a questioning of the status quo in all aspects. It presupposes a reflection on one’s own practice on both what is happening in the classroom and how that maps onto the goals of world language study. If your goal is perfect grammar to be reproduced on a test, then this volume will likely mean little to you and you should continue looking for the perfect textbook. However, we hope that reading this volume will spur other teachers to reflect on their own practice and question the whys and hows of teaching language. We hope this book will encourage readers to analyze their own beliefs and practices regarding world language education and push them to pursue new lines of teaching and researching foreign languages both in and out of the classroom.
