In the past decade, globalization has had a tremendous impact on higher education as an increasing number of students worldwide now study for significant periods of time beyond their own national borders. This chapter explores the potential implications of international service-learning in higher education to enhance global citizenship. Three dimensions of global citizenship are identified (i.e., identity, allegiance, receding boundaries) and each of these is amenable to empirical study as sociological or social-psychological constructs. This conceptual framework is proposed to define some of the topics for further exploration and research.
