Chapter 4: Police Officers in Danger

For police professionals at all levels of government, placing one’s life on the line for the commitment of a solemn oath to defend and serve our citizens is an act of the finest citizenship. Without such heroes, our rule of law would mean nothing. They are our thin blue front line. Past police practices, we conclude, can be improved for the usual quickly assembled teams through LMX team leadership training of both officers and their commanders. Examples of critical incidents where this would have reduced the severity of harm’s way threats are illustrated and discussed.
