In school, content learning and values education are usually taught in separate lessons, if the latter is taught at all. Values and moral education in school have often been hampered by the teachers’ lack of consensus on topics, goals and methods of value education and insufficient conceptualization and guidelines, the primacy of curricular subjects contrasted by low status of value education, the large amount of curricular subjects, pressure resulting from exams and grading, and several other reasons (Gruber, 2009). On the other hand, values and moral education are legally required from the teachers (although usually only to be seen in the prefaces of the curricula), and politicians, parents, et cetera, increasingly call for values and moral education in school to compensate for the deficits in the society.
