Buddhism is the state religion of Bhutan and Bhutan is perhaps the only country where the religion is being maintained with some vigor. By and large the Bhutanese population follow the performance of rimdro, the offering of services and honoring of spiritual persons and communities. They are also called the pujas and ritual ceremonies performed to pacify hin-drances. Rimdros are being performed in almost all parts of the country with some differences in types and grandeur.
One however becomes curious to explore the relationship between the rimdro and Buddhism. Thus, this paper attempts to respond to questions such as:
The paper also tries to list and categorise some of the more common and popular rimdros that are being performed in Bhutan with their purposes and significance. By the same token various rimdros and their age old texts are the treasures of Bhutan through which we can see Bhutan and its culture.
