First page of Peer Mentoring For Leader Development

Peer mentoring is well-regarded as an effective practice for fostering college student success (Collier, 2017) and the personal and professional development of peer mentors and mentees (Baroudi & David, 2019; Connolly, 2017; Lin et al., 2016). In leadership education, peer mentors have been utilized in curricular and co-curricular settings to enhance leader development (Hirsch et al., 2021; Priest & Donley, 2014; Sunderman & Hastings, 2023). In this chapter peer mentoring is defined, considerations for implementation are outlined, and two examples of implementation are shared. The chapter finishes with an overview of recent research on peer mentoring for leader development and future directions for scholarship.
