First page of Vision Statements and Personal Development Plans as Tools in Leader
                        Development

This chapter offers an overview of individual and organizational vision statements and personal development plans (PDP), how each fits into a broader category of self-directed learning, and the connection of these approaches to leader development. This chapter illustrates how educators can employ both pedagogical approaches (vision statements and PDPs) in practice. The current literature and the areas needed for further study are shared to highlight where additional research is needed to support the utility of vision exercises and PDPs in practice. The chapter concludes with a deeper look at both approaches and a curated list of resources to explore this topic further. As the reader, you are invited to consider how these two pedagogical techniques may support you in advancing the leadership learning initiatives you have prioritized in your classroom, workplace, or project-based teams.
