Organizations are increasingly using artificial intelligence (AI) to support human resources (HR) management processes and decision-making. Although AI has the potential to fundamentally transform the practice of HR, there exists a dearth of systematic research on how this transformation will affect micro-level HR processes in organizations (e.g., recruitment, selection, training, performance appraisal), and there is little research on the effectiveness of the new AI-enabled HR processes. Thus, the primary purposes of the present paper are to (a) consider how AI will change HR practices and processes, (b) present the advantages and disadvantages of using AI in HR, (c) review the limited research on the effectiveness of AI enabled HR processes, (d) offer directions for future research and practice on the use of AI in HR. This chapter also offers specific propositions that can foster additional research on AI-enabled HR practices and makes several recommendations for practice.
