Abstract
Tourism has become a vital global economic force and a key driver of development. Its rapid growth presents valuable opportunities for women entrepreneurs to impact local and national economies. Beyond its economic role, tourism promotes social awareness, cultural exchange, and international cooperation. In India, tourism significantly contributes to income generation and helps address unemployment. While the industry employs many women, they are often confined to low-wage, low-skill roles. Despite the sector’s potential, women’s participation in leadership and entrepreneurship remains limited. This paper explores the reasons behind this imbalance and suggests ways to increase women’s involvement in tourism. Women face challenges such as job segregation, lower wages, and limited access to resources. Deep-rooted social norms also restrict their advancement. Still, the sector offers promising opportunities for women to launch businesses, assume leadership roles, and gain education and training. To foster lasting change, collaboration among policymakers, industry leaders, and community groups is essential. Together, they can build a more inclusive and equitable tourism industry where women can truly thrive.
