Green finance is essential to fight climate change and promote sustainable economic development. This chapter explores the development of green finance in South Asia, a region marked by high economic growth and crucial environmental problems. It discusses the influence of policies, green financial instruments, and regulatory systems on green finance in key economies in the region. Based on secondary data from policy papers, regulatory reports, and academic research, the reports critically assess prominent green finance mechanisms such as climate risk disclosures, sustainability-linked incentives, and green bonds. Although regulatory efforts and financial innovations are driving progress in the industry, challenges like low investor awareness, fragmented policies, and inconsistent regulations remain a stumbling block. Yet, trends such as policy convergence, growth in sustainable financial products, and enhanced climate-related disclosure point to a positive direction for green finance in South Asia. In spite of the limitations inherent in secondary data, this research presents useful findings on the green finance trend in the region. The evidence bases for future empirical studies and policy-making. Practically, the chapter offers policy recommendations for policymakers, financial institutions, and regulators to increase the uptake of green finance. It is possible to strengthen regional collaboration, promote financial innovation, and enhance regulatory systems to spur the expansion of sustainable finance in South Asia. This study fills the scarce region-specific literature on green finance with insights into the ways in which international climate policies and financial innovation can promote economic resilience and underpin sustainable development.
