Abstract
This chapter explores the pivotal role of greenery in urban design and its influence on the quality of life for city residents. This chapter focuses on understanding how the quantity and quality of green spaces shape users’ preferences for specific public spaces in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Employing a mixed-methods approach, this chapter incorporates surveys and site observations to assess the availability and condition of green spaces. Preliminary findings suggest that green space quality and quantity are positively correlated with user satisfaction and location preferences. Additionally, the presence of well-maintained greenery significantly enhances perceptions of safety, comfort, and overall user satisfaction with public spaces. This chapter aims to provide urban planners and policymakers with actionable insights to improve the sustainability and user-friendliness of Jeddah’s public spaces, ultimately enhancing the well-being and quality of life of its residents.
