Anti-racist and culturally responsive work, although not named as such in the 1960s and 70s, has been an integral part of the evolution of equity work in gifted education. This chapter explains how racial equity in the field has roots from which a contemporary framework of culturally responsive advanced education leader (CRAEL) can be grounded and grow. Advocates who aim to close racial excellence gaps can use CRAEL attitudes and behaviors to become more effective in engaging in equity work.
