As the global tourism industry expands, the concept of sustainability has become increasingly vital. This chapter discusses the growing importance of sustainability in the expanding global tourism industry, with a specific focus on halal tourism. With increasing demand for halal tourism, sustainability and ethics have become essential in defining its future.
This chapter examines the convergence of sustainability and ethics in halal tourism, with a focus on the environmental, social, and economic obligations of stakeholders. Sustainable halal tourism encourages environmental friendly practices, for example, minimizing carbon footprints, conservation of natural resources, and proper waste management in line with Islamic principles. Ethical practice includes fair labor practices, responsible business, and inclusiveness while being respectful of cultural and religious values. The contribution of Shariah-compliant accommodations, Halal food certification, and ethical tourism activities is also discussed. It also serves the challenges and opportunities in aligning halal tourism with sustainable tourism principles, such as natural resource conservation, social justice promotion, and generating economic benefits for local communities.
The research points to the necessity of developing industry-wide standards that merge Islamic ethics with universal sustainability models to assure a balanced and responsible approach.
